SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT PROCESS

The following are due dates for the Science Fair Projects. All students will be notified by the Science Instructor verbally and in writing of the deadline dates for the Log Book and Project requirements. The Greater Saint Louis Science Fair guidelines and Scientific Process will be distributed to the students and discussed in class. The first data entries are due on first School day in December.

Dates Requirements

_12/16_ Bring in the Log Books with Hypothesis and research collected, thus far. Five research sources are required from each student. Periodicals, textbooks, interviews and the Internet are acceptable resources. A personal interview and

one internet source may be used. All research sources will be written in a bibliographical format.

_1/13 __ At least one experiment should be in progress or

completed. All projects should have a minimum of two experiments to validate the reliability of the data.

__1/14_ Start the second experiment and record data in the Log Book. If more experiments are needed to substantiate the conclusion; record and submit

data.

__2/10_ Turn in a written report on materials used, inde- pendent, constant and dependent variables of your experiment. Take photographs of experiment and model for the Project board and report.

__2/17 Complete the Results and Conclusion and begin

positioning the placement of labels either neatly handwritten/typewritten, photographs and models

on the Project Board.

__2/24 Science Project Due! Remember: Do not write your name on any part of your project, log book or report. (The judging is strictly anonymous).

pleted Project Board, Log Book and Written Report.

_3/5-3/8_ The Judges are scheduled to determine the final winners by category (Elementary 3rd-6th, Secondary 7th-8th). No judge is a MIA staff member or parent of any Science Fair entrant.

__3/15__ After all projects have been judged, scores tallied and winners determined (based upon the highest scores per category) the projects will be critiqued by the Science Instructor/Coordinator. The critiques will be submitted to the winners in writing for further improvements in presentation of the Project Board, Log Book or Report.

__4/11_ The winning Science Fair Projects will be delivered to and retrieved from the Greater St. Louis Science Fair site by a MIA staff member or parent on the designated dates.

Each Science Project will receive a grade from the Science Instructor/Coordinator. This grade will hold the same weight as a test. All students are required to submit a project. Late projects will be accepted. Each late project will be penalized 5 percentage points for each day of tardiness. All Science Projects submitted after the due date but received prior to the Judges scoring will be considered for entry into the Fair.
